A total of 32 people attended the April 17, 2025 virtual program: The Attack on DEI: What We All Stand to Lose.
Julianne Phillips, DEI Committee member, introduced Speaker Jay Kaplan, who began the presentation by defining DEI and why it is so important in our society.
He also provided a summary of the Trump Administration’s recent actions to dismantle DEI programs. These include Executive Orders (EO’s) requiring the dissolution of governmental DEI programs, but also pressuring private businesses and colleges and universities to eliminate their programs. These EO’s come at a cost, including the loss of funding to support DEI programs.
Jay also reviewed the court cases currently filed against the Administration, some of which have delayed implementation. He encouraged attendees to remain vigilant and engaged as we navigate this new environment and added that it is important for each of us to choose specific areas of interest/concern to prevent being overwhelmed.
